Birth story.

We arrived at the hospital on Thursday, September 24 to welcome Finley and Zane into the world. We had a wonderful nurse, Sarah who got me all hooked up and settled in….she was great and explained everything in detail.

I was still at 4 cm, but fully effaced that morning.  We got the pitocin hooked up along with fluids and monitors. The doc came in and broke my water and I started to progress nicely! It was neat to be able to watch the contractions and heartbeats of the babies.  It took me a while to actually feel the contractions (I am so not complaining!). But once I did, it was shortly after that I requested drugs!

The anesthesiologist  came in a did the epidural.  It wasn’t easy for her to do since I had so much swelling  and edema .  She also informed me that my spine was curved making it difficult to place and that she was not sure if it was a spinal that she had given or an epidural because she was blindly placing it.  At the end of the day, it was an epidural and placed correctly.

I could feel the pressure of the contractions and that is when I called the nurse and she came to check and I was 9.5 cm.  Off to the OR!!!  We got settled into the OR and started pushing around 4:00…it was just Gary,, the nurse, and me for a while pushing, and pushing, and pushing. 5:00 shift change was quickly approaching and I started progressing slowly.  My nurse called her hubby to try to stay longer, but wasn’t able to.  Unfortunately that is where things started to change.  I stopped being able to feel the contractions and therefore was not pushing properly. I continued to push a while longer until no progress was being made.  It was then that we had to make a decision.  My doc came in and told us our options, and that is when we decided that c-section would be the safest route.

As soon as we made that decision, the room filled with docs, nurses, anesthesiologists and pediatricians.  It was amazing how fast they had me ready.  Within 10 minutes, the babies had  arrived.  Needless to say I was exhausted, emotional, and immediately  in love with the 2 most precious miracles.

My recovery is a whole other story!  I am on the mend, but it sure started out rough.

Oh, I just love reading the story through your words! I can't tell you how special it was for me to be in the waiting room that day with your family! We have prayed for this day for so long, and it was just perfect! You have proven yourself to be one of the toughest women I know, and you won "mom of the year" well before you ever got to hold those sweet babies in your arms!

I can't wait to read the rest of your story, and I can't wait to watch it unfold over the years ahead!

Thanks for being such a wonderful best friend! I love you with all of my heart!
